Model NATO Estonia (MNE) is a competitive educational simulation for students. It is a model of the proceedings of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and an exercise in negotiations, diplomacy and foreign relations.

Simulation of the work in two NATO committees is augmented by pre-event study, lectures and briefings at embassies of NATO member states and in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As such it provides a unique opportunity for students to learn about the function, structure and activities of NATO, as well as experience first hand the role of country representatives or diplomats in international affairs and in negotiating clashing country interests. This provides an interactive educational experience that intertwines knowledge acquisition, analysis and application.

MNE is by nature a competitive simulation, in which participants representing different countries strive to act as authentically and effectively as possible in achieving the goals set to them by their role. The best informed and most authentic representatives shall be awarded for their efforts to make the experience as true to the actual proceedings of NATO as possible.

In the course of the simulation students, apart from dealing with a prepared agenda, will find themselves challenged to grapple unpredictable contemporary issues to be revealed during the event.

Each participating team will represent a member state of NATO chosen upon registration. Before participants start the simulation in earnest they will be hear lectures on international diplomacy and negotiation procedures. They will aslo be aided in becoming accustomed to committee work. In the course of the event all teams will have access to preparatory material including the Agenda, Delegation Handbook, Rules of Procedure and a Country Profile.

In addition, all delegations will be briefed at the Embassy of the country they will be representing, subject to availability. All participants representing countries without a permanent representative in Estonia will be briefed by the experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Beyond this, participants are expected to study the country of their choice extensively to be able to ask informed questions from the experts and to represent their country well.
