What is Model NATO?

The practice of "Model" international organization conferences has a long and varied tradition in the world. Model North Atlantic Treaty Organization, as a relatively recent addition, is one of the most professional and academically intense opportunities available to undergraduate students worldwide. Beside Model European Parliament (MEP), Model UN (MUN) and Model Arab League (MAL), Model NATO is one of the most important introductions international organizations for students. Participants will get the opportunity to put themselves into the position of the world´s most important diplomats and compete in acting the role of a NATO member state's representative as authentically and successfully as possible.

How does it work?

28 teams of two university students will represent NATO member states during the three-day-event. During the simulation each team member will be representing their respective NATO member state in one of two NATO council meetings, the North Atlantic Council or the Military Council. Prior to dealing with a global crisis, the participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the country they will be representing. To facilitate this, the first day of the event will feature lectures on foreign affairs and NATO activities and also country briefings conducted in respective embassies. The last three days will introduce and begin the simulation of NATO proceedings. For more detailed information, look at activities.
